An International Network 20046 organised by Weatherhead East Asian Institute (WEAI), School of International and Public Affairs, Columbia, USA & the Mongolia & Inner Asia Studies Unit, Department of Social Anthropology, University of Cambridge, funded by the British Academy and the Weatherhead East Asian Insitute.

This project brings together researchers working on nationality issues in contemporary China with anthropologists and others working on studies of the late socialist period in the USSR and other former socialist countries. In doing this, it seeks to privilege the insights of self-reflective anthropologists those who apply anthropological methods of critical analysis to what are or were their own societies, notably inthe USSR, Mongolia & China.
